GTO Wizard vs PioSOLVER (2026): pre-solved library or your own trees?

GTO Wizard gives you solutions that are already calculated, in any browser, with a Trainer to drill them. PioSOLVER is a Windows program that solves exactly the tree you build: your ranges, your bet sizes, your rake. They answer different needs, and for some players the right answer is PioSOLVER.

What each one really costs

The two pricing models are hard to compare as they stand: GTO Wizard is a subscription in dollars, PioSOLVER a one-time licence in euros plus tax. Compare them by what you actually want to do.

You mainly want to study standard spots

GTO Wizard Free costs nothing. Starter is $468 a year billed yearly ($421.20 for your first year with the 10% partner offer) and gives you Single Size postflop solutions across the library. PioSOLVER Pro costs €450 once, but you build and solve every spot yourself.

You want custom trees, your rake and nodelocking

On GTO Wizard that means Elite: $169 a month, or $139 a month billed yearly ($1,668 a year; $1,501.20 for the first year with the partner offer). PioSOLVER Pro gives you custom postflop solving for €450 once, with one year of updates included. Over a year or more, PioSOLVER is clearly the cheaper way to get custom trees, provided you have a capable Windows PC.

You want heads-up preflop solving

PioSOLVER Edge (€800 once) includes a heads-up preflop solver that needs a very powerful machine. GTO Wizard includes its preflop library on every plan; custom multiway preflop solving (up to 9 players) is on Ultra only ($359 a month, $289 billed yearly; the partner discount does not apply to Ultra).

After the first year, PioSOLVER keeps working on the last version your licence covers; paying for more updates is optional. GTO Wizard stops when you cancel, and you can ask for a refund within 7 days.

One spot, two workflows

The question: button vs big blind in a single-raised pot, flop Q♠ J♥ 2♥. Should the button keep a small c-bet or add a big one?

With GTO Wizard

Open the matching cash solution (stakes, positions, stack depth), look at the button’s strategy by hand category, then switch between the available sizes. Drill the spot in the Trainer until your choices match. About ten minutes with no setup, but you work with the sizes and rake GTO Wizard chose (Single Size or several sizes, depending on your plan). On Elite you can also run your own 2-way solve in the browser.

With PioSOLVER

Enter both ranges, the pot and the stacks, then define the tree (check, 33% and 75% pot bets, the big blind’s responses). Set the rake and target accuracy, and solve. Duplicate the tree without the 75% size and compare. More setup and solving time, but the answer fits your exact game.

If your question is ‘what does a solver do here?’, GTO Wizard is faster. If it is ‘what changes if…?’, PioSOLVER is built for it.

04

Hardware and Mac: the practical difference

GTO Wizard computes on its own servers, so an old laptop, a Mac or a phone is enough. PioSOLVER runs on your own Windows PC. The publisher says almost any modern 64-bit processor works and that speed grows with the number of physical cores.

Memory decides which trees you can build. You need at least 4 GB of free RAM for comfortable postflop work; the publisher says 16 GB is almost never a limitation, while 8 GB can limit very large trees with several bet sizes.

There is no macOS version. PioSOLVER’s documentation says Mac users run it through Parallels or Boot Camp. Boot Camp only exists on Intel Macs; on Apple silicon you need a Windows virtual machine. Try the Free version first to check it runs well.

On a Mac and don’t want to run Windows? Start with GTO Wizard’s Free plan.

05

Can GTO Wizard replace PioSOLVER?

Partly. GTO Wizard Elite lets you solve your own 2-way spots in the browser, with nodelocking and exploitable profiles, and Ultra adds custom 3-way postflop and multiway preflop solving. For most players who used PioSOLVER to look up standard spots, that is enough.

PioSOLVER is still the better choice if you:

  • run batches of solves with scripts (several flops overnight, for example);
  • would rather own a perpetual licence than pay every month;
  • want heads-up preflop solves under your own assumptions (Edge);
  • want every solve to stay on your own machine.

GTO Wizard has the edge if you:

  • want a ready-made library and a Trainer for daily volume;
  • play tournaments with ICM and bounties (Tournament plans);
  • play PLO (separate GTO Wizard subscription; PioSOLVER has no Omaha);
  • study on a Mac or a phone.

Using them around the tables

Neither tool is meant to be open while you play. Winamax’s poker terms, for example, name GTO Wizard and PioSolver among the solvers forbidden during play, and Winamax checks running processes while its client is open. Most sites ban real-time assistance in the same way. Study before or after your sessions, and close your solvers before you launch a poker client.

GTO Wizard vs PioSOLVER: FAQ

Is GTO Wizard better than PioSOLVER?

For most players’ daily study, yes: it needs no setup or hardware, runs on any device, and has a Free plan and a Trainer. PioSOLVER is better when you need full control over the tree (bet sizes, rake, nodelocking, scripts) and prefer a one-time licence. Many serious players use GTO Wizard for drilling and PioSOLVER for custom research.

Can GTO Wizard solve custom spots like PioSOLVER?

Yes, from the Elite plan ($169 a month, $139 billed yearly): custom 2-way solving, nodelocking and exploitable profiles in the browser. Starter and Premium give you the pre-solved library only. Ultra adds custom 3-way postflop and multiway preflop solving.

Compare GTO Wizard plans
Does PioSOLVER work on Mac?

Not natively: it is a Windows program. The publisher says Mac users run it through Parallels or Boot Camp, and Boot Camp only works on Intel Macs. GTO Wizard runs in any browser, Mac included.

Which is cheaper, GTO Wizard or PioSOLVER?

To study standard spots, GTO Wizard: the Free plan costs nothing and Starter is $39 a month billed yearly. For custom trees, PioSOLVER: Pro is €450 once (plus tax), while GTO Wizard’s custom solving starts with Elite at $1,668 a year billed yearly.

How much RAM does PioSOLVER need?

The publisher recommends at least 4 GB of free RAM for postflop work and says 16 GB is almost never a limitation; very large trees with several bet sizes can go beyond 8 GB. Speed depends on the number of processor cores.

Does PioSOLVER support PLO or multiway pots?

There is no Omaha: PioSOLVER solves Hold’em heads-up spots (and 6+ Hold’em since version 3.12). GTO Wizard sells PLO as a separate subscription, and its Ultra plan solves custom 3-way postflop spots.

Is there a free version of each?

GTO Wizard Free gives you up to 100 preflop solutions, 1 postflop spot and 10 practice hands a day, plus 5 analysed hands a month. PioSOLVER Free is an evaluation version that solves only two example flops, with the same performance as Pro.

Can I use GTO Wizard or PioSOLVER while playing?

No. On most sites a solver open during play counts as real-time assistance; Winamax, for instance, names both in its list of software forbidden during play. Use them between sessions.
