Revisit a spot
Return to the point in the hand that interests you. Set out the board, actions and question you want to clarify.
Examine the ranges
Explore possible combinations and their weights in your scenario. A range becomes more concrete when you look at the hands that make it up.
Ask someone to review the hand
Share your analysis to discuss a specific assumption. A disagreement then becomes a clear topic to study.
This work is particularly useful when your reasoning is vague: “they often have a draw”, “I am probably ahead”, “they never call with worse”. Naming the actual hands reveals what those statements really imply.

Reconstruct the situation
Record positions, stacks, pot, cards and actions up to the decision. A good review keeps the context in which you had to choose.

Describe the opposing range
List hands consistent with earlier actions. Separate strong hands, medium-strength hands and draws instead of choosing one convenient hand.

Vary one assumption
Add plausible bluffs, remove hands rarely played this way or adjust their weights. See how that changes your read of the spot.

Keep a useful conclusion
Write down what tipped the decision: certain draws, the bet size or a narrowing range. You can recognise that factor in a future hand.

Take a fictional situation: you hold A♠ Q♣ on Q♥ 8♦ 4♦ and face a bet. Before deciding whether your top pair is “strong” or “vulnerable”, break down the opponent’s possible hands.

Compare a tight betting range with one containing more draws. The aim is to identify which assumption changes your analysis, then discuss how plausible it is.
Look at the combinations
Your cards and the board remove some combinations. Giving every category the same weight can therefore hide important differences within the range.
Connect equity with the decision
Equity describes your hand’s share of the pot against a range if the remaining cards are dealt to the end. To choose an action, also consider the bet size and how the hand can continue.
That also makes sharing valuable: a study partner may accept your calculation but suggest a different range. You then know exactly which assumption to examine together.
